“From No Way”
Participation Guide
Watch the video to the right, and follow along as you record your parts to be added to our collective journey of “Making a Way out of No Way.” Please follow the recommendations below for adding your contribution:
Listen to this recording, and sing when prompted. If you are playing an instrument, download this CHORD SHEET for reference.
You will need two devices: one for listening to this video with headphones, and another for recording your video and audio (a cell phone or computer). Listening with headphones is important, and ensures that no unnecessary background noise is in your video. Ensuring you are in a quiet room also helps with background noise.
Begin recording on your device first, then hit “play” on the video so you are in position when it is time to start performing. We can trim video off the front and back end in production.
Place the camera at eye level, or as close to it as possible. It’s best to place the camera somewhere stationary, use books or any small items to prop it up. Using the front facing camera is ok to help frame yourself up. Just try not to watch yourself on the screen as you perform.
Make sure that there isn’t overpowering light coming from behind you. Try to keep the primary light source on your face, with as little shadow as possible.
For this project we are attempting to create a somber mood, so if possible please avoid 100% brightness. Meaning, try to strike a balance between a completely lit face and a completely shaded face. On some phones, a tap on the screen can adjust the exposure level to the selection. Try this with your phone. Front facing camera on, tap your cheek or forehead and the camera should move it’s internal exposure to the appropriate levels for your phone.
Framing should be a “Medium” shot, mainly focusing on your face from mid torso up. Make sure not to cut off the top of your head, but also don’t leave a lot of space between your head and the top of the frame.
After recording is complete, please send your file through www.wetransfer.com OR www.transferxl.com to Daniel Harmon at dharmon@cofchrist.org. Contact Daniel if you have any other questions about this process.
Thank you for participating! Be sure to watch the Making a Way out of No Way practice series, and as the weeks progress, more voices will be added! You are encouraged to share your part as soon as you are able.
Each week this original song, “From No Way” will be shared as a contemplative practice, followed by a weekly question for continued reflection on the Lenten journey. As a participant in this video, you are adding your voice to our growing community who “seeks a way out of no way.” This song was co-written by Daniel Harmon and Jenny Jackson, and will be a primary guide for Lent.
